ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING THURS 9TH NOVEMBER

Viking Swimming Club will hold its Annual General Meeting at 7.30PM on Thursday the 9th November 2017 in Ballyfermot Sports and Fitness Centre. Any parents who may be interested in volunteering to join the management committee should contact the Club Chairman, Club Secretary or any of the other Committee Members directly. We have a number of vacancies on the committee as a number of the current Committee will be stepping down at the AGM. We would encourage all members to consider giving their time as committee members to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the Club.

Pool Bank Rosters – Senior, Transition and Land Training.

Please see attached Pool Bank Rosters for Senior and Transition Squad parents, also included is the Land Training Roster. It is the parents responsibility to attend their rostered session, if you are unable to attend you must arrange cover yourself.  Please arrive 15 minutes before the session starts, to assist with pool set-up and to cover the door. Vikings at the Liffey Swim!

A big congratulations is due to our young Viking Lucy Collins and her mum Isabel.  They qualified for and competed in the 98th Dublin City Liffey Swim on Saturday 9th September. Lucy was the youngest competitor in the race and featured in a number of media articles at the weekend. Well done girls!

Sports Nutrition Information Thurs 14th Sept

We are delighted to have organised an Information Talk on Sports Nutrition by Sharon Madigan, the Irish Institute of Sport’s Head of Performance Nutrition   The talk will take place in Ballyfermot Sports Complex, Gurteen Road, commencing at 6.30pm on Thursday the 14th September.  Gurteen Road is off Drumfinn Road. If you are coming from Liffey Valley/Palmerstown, take the left turn after the Community Civic Centre, and then take the 2nd left on to Gurteen road.  If you are coming from Kylemore Roundabout/Chapelizod, pass the Gala Complex on the left, and then take a right turn onto Drumfinn Road, and 2nd left onto Gurteen Road   Nutrition is an important element in all of our lives, and particularly for training athletes.  We would encourage as many swimmers and parents as possible to attend this event. There will be no Junior Squad swimming training as a result on Thursday the 14th September.

A Message from your Chairman

As we reach the end of the swimming season, I would like to congratulate all Viking swimmers for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Well done to everyone who has taken part in the various galas we have attended over the swimming year.  All swimmers who took part in the National Division 2 competition did the club proud with 19 personal bests, and fantastic swimming by both of our relay teams. I would like to wish our two swimmers taking part in the National Division 1 competition the very best of luck.  My thanks to Jackie, Sonia, Sinead, Conor and Alan for their hard work and their commitment to all the swimmers and parents alike.
